DAVID KATZ, Program Manager Defense, Security, & Intelligence

Throughout his public and professional career, Dave Katz has been a leader on the most critical issues facing our nation and community. As a West Point graduate, Infantry Officer and Green Beret Captain, he has guarded the frontiers of freedom on several continents. As a public pension fund executive, he has worked to secure the public trust and fulfill the promises between state employees and their government. An experienced and proven leader, he is an outspoken advocate for reform of San Francisco's City government.
A 1981 graduate of West Point, Dave Katz served in Europe, the United States and Central America. A 1989 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, he holds a Masters of Science in Industrial Administration. As a Special Investments Officer at Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh, PA, he worked with small businesses, start-up's and entrepreneurs. Recruited to Pennsylvania's State Employees Retirement System as Assistant Director, he managed more than $350 million of public investments in venture capital and leveraged buyouts.
Moving to California in 1993, he joined Shott Capital, a financial boutique in San Francisco, and created its Private Equity Department. While Director, he managed more than $800 million in pension fund investments for some of America's largest corporations. In 1996, he started his own asset management business and grew it to over $1.3 billion. Transitioning in 2001, he joined another financial start-up as Vice President, working with the World Bank and other global financial institutions. He also maintains a personal consultancy for restructuring financial assets and is on retainer to a crisis management firm. Dave founded and is President of Operation Enduring Support, a California non-profit, charitable (501c3) corporation which assists the families of California National Guardsmen and Reservists deployed overseas.
He lives with his wife, Angela, and daughter, Rachel Rose, in Palm Harbor, Florida.
