Senior Vice President


Les Hunkele is a distinguished construction manager with more than forty years of industry experience. He is a Professional Engineer, Certified Construction Manager, Certified Plant Engineer and a LEED Accredited Professional. He is also a Fellow of CMAA.

Mr. Hunkele has been Senior Vice President for Luster National since 2009. He has conducted business development efforts and directed Luster Teams for the following: Program and Project Management Needs Assessment for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Galveston; Construction Engineering Assessment for the General Services Administration and FEMA in American Samoa; and, technical support to the Maryland Procurement Office.

Mr. Hunkele’s career includes senior government positions with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, General Services Administration (GSA), and the Department of Defense. He maintains his advisory role with federal government construction as a national peer reviewer for GSA.

Mr. Hunkele has also held senior leadership positions with such companies as AECOM, Pennsylvania Avenue Development Corporation, and Clark Construction. For these companies he has managed billions of dollars in construction projects including the Pentagon Rebuild.

As a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP), Mr. Hunkele managed several LEED certified projects including: the Chesapeake Bay Foundation Headquarters (the first building to receive the LEED Platinum rating), the Census Bureau Headquarters (a LEED Gold project), and several LEED Silver projects.

Mr. Hunkele’s expertise encompasses all phases and aspects of construction including planning, budgeting, design, program and operations and maintenance, real estate development and contracting. He has extensive experience as an owner, owner’s representative, agency Construction Manager, at-risk Construction Manager, and as a general contractor. He had an unlimited contracting warrant, was head of contracting activity, and was an Authority Having Jurisdiction for Life Safety.

As a member of the Construction Management Association of America, Mr. Hunkele received the Association’s Outstanding Service Award and Fellow status. He is the recipient of American Society of Civil Engineer’s Roebling Award for Outstanding Contributions to Construction Engineering, the GSA Administrator’s Outstanding Performance award and several awards for his contributions to 9/11 recovery efforts.
