COST ENGINEER
OVERVIEW: Prepares and/or coordinates preparation of full estimates on large and complex projects. Provides complete conceptual and final estimating input. Deals with clients, A/E’s and contractors to resolve technical matters during negotiation and contract execution. May supervise junior staff members. May specialize in one or more areas, such as heavy civil, or building construction.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop custom cost estimating plans to meet Project Manager and client’s requirements.
- Work directly with clients on conceptual cost estimates.
- Prepare stage of design estimates of construction cost.
- Prepare final estimated cost from construction documents.
- Prepare Change Order cost estimates and assist in negotiating changes with contractors.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- At least 10 years of construction estimating experience in General Engineering and/or General Building fields.
- 2-4 years experience in public works estimating and/or management of projects.
- Proficient computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, cost management and project management software
- Familiar with Primavera, Microsoft Project, or similar project management software is desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to work as a team member, contributing to the overall program development by participating in-group discussions in areas of expertise
- Self-starter, and able to work with minimal direction and supervision
- High integrity and honesty
