ATLANTA, Georgia - April 28, 2004 Luster National Inc., a professional services company specializing in program, project and construction management based in Atlanta, was recently recognized by the San Francisco Business Chronicle as a member of the team involved in the "Best Land Deal of the Year." Luster National, in a joint venture, operating under the team name of Hartsfield-Jackson Construction Management (HJCM), with DMJM Aviation, Bovis Lend Lease, Louis Berger and the Thacker Operating Company, Inc., is construction manager and resident engineer for the $500-million, 9,000-foot fifth parallel runway at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The project cited by the San Francisco paper as "Best Land Deal of the Year" is the Hunters Point Shipyard project. The project is poised to convert 93 acres on a long-closed Navy base into new homes, commercial space, green space and community facilities. Hunters Point Shipyard closed over 30 years ago and a decade after authorizing approval to negotiations the transfer of the 500-acre facility to the city, developer Lennar/BVHP expects to break ground on the first phase this summer. Luster is serving as the contractor on the development. The $600 million first phase will include 1,600 housing units, 300,000 square feet of retail and industrial development and six acres of community facilities. The neighborhood will also have $36 million in community funds available for public amenities. "Luster is proud to be part of a project that will launch significant neighborhood revitalization," says company president, Robert Luster. The project is expected to serve as the economic engine to revitalize the area and will generate 1,000 construction and permanent jobs. Others instrumental in the project include the San Francisco Mayor's Office of Community Development and the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency.
