OVERVIEW

Rehabilitations are inherently complex and the Pentagon Renovation was no exception. Its size (6,500,000 s.f.), large number of occupants (25,000), historic designation, nature of business, and stringent security requirements compounded the complexity.

Luster National was a subcontractor on the team headed by DMJMH+N, in joint venture, which serves as the prototypical A-E systems designer and program management contractor, orchestrating the major renovation of the Pentagon for the next 50 years.

The team also supported the Department of Defense’s Washington Headquarter Services in the repair of damages sustained in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. In addition to managing the work of other A-E contractors involved in the Pentagon Renovation project, the team executed a variety of tasks, including:

  • Prototypical architectural and engineering systems design
  • Evaluation of existing conditions
  • Feasibility studies, standards and criteria
  • Compliance reviews
  • CDs and building-wide procurement packages
  • Project estimating and scheduling
  • Relocation planning
  • Construction management and quality assurance

Other special features include:

  • Intense security requirements
  • Extensive information management
