PROJECT OUTCOME
After successful completion of the North Field Cargo Facility, Luster was selected as part of a development team to finance, design, construct and operate & maintain over a 30 year period the new $200 million West Field Cargo Facility at San Francisco International Airport

OVERVIEW

This contract provided for the design, new construction and reconfiguration of the cargo and maintenance facilities in the North Field area of San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

The project included improved facility access and additional aircraft parking area at SFO. The segment of the work associated with this effort included improvements to the airside and landside access, including pavements.

The new facility is a pile-supported, high-bay, two-story structure with nearly 200,000 square feet of ground-level cargo warehouse space and 35,000 square feet of ground-level office space. The structure is steel-framed with an exterior skin of insulated metal siding and can accommodate 82 trucks on the land side, and five wide-body aircraft on the air side. The facility is a joint-use structure for two tenants, with space for a possible third or expansion by existing tenants.

Luster, as joint-venture partner, was responsible for constructability and value engineering reviews; assisting airport staff with construction bidding; managing and coordinating the construction contractor’s activities; inspecting contractor work for quality control and compliance with contract documents and codes; developing and monitoring construction schedules; managing cost and contractor payments; monitoring and progress reporting; mitigating construction conflicts; and providing close-out services.
