History

Orville Luster, father to Robert Luster, and grandfather to Emily, Sarah, and John Luster, arrived in San Francisco after WWII. He honorably served in the U.S. Army as a first sergeant and was a proud member of the African American unit, the Red Ball Express, in the European Theater. After WWII, Orville used the G.I. Bill and graduated from San Francisco State University. Upon graduation, he was hired by the San Francisco based non-profit, Youth for Service, to serve as the Executive Director. Orville committed himself to helping troubled youth with few options other than gang membership. In concert with labor unions and public officials, he created workforce development programs that took gang members off the street and placed them into union-paying jobs, back to school to earn a college degree, or both.

Robert Luster followed in his father's footsteps of serving in the military and attended the United States Military Academy at West Point. He received his B.S. in General Engineering and, following graduation, Robert served in the infantry branch of the Army for 11 years. During this time, he received his MBA from Long Island University. When he was discharged from active duty, Robert moved back to the Bay Area and began laying the foundation for creating Luster National with Orville. Together, in 1990, the two founded Luster National.

For 33 years, Robert served as Luster National's President and led the company to great growth and success. He is incredibly passionate about his work and built Luster on the foundation of his “can do” attitude. It is an honor for the next generation, Sarah, Emily, and John, to take over the incredible company that Robert and Orville founded and built up.
