History

Orville Luster, father of Robert Luster and grandfather of Emily, Sarah, and John, served honorably in WWII as a U.S. Army first sergeant with the famed Red Ball Express, the largely African American convoy operation that kept Allied forces supplied across the European Theater. After the war, he settled in San Francisco, used the G.I. Bill to graduate from San Francisco State University, and became executive director of the nonprofit Youth for Service. There, Orville committed himself to young people whose only option seemed to be gang membership. Working alongside labor unions and public officials, he built workforce development programs that moved gang members off the street and into union jobs, college classrooms, or both.

Robert Luster followed his father into military service, earning a B.S. in General Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and serving 11 years as an Army infantry officer, completing his MBA at Long Island University along the way. After leaving active duty, Robert returned to the Bay Area, and in 1990 he and Orville founded Luster National.

For 33 years, Robert served as President, building the firm on his "can do" attitude and leading it through three decades of growth. Today it is the honor of the next generation, Emily, John, and Sarah, to carry forward the company their father and grandfather built.
