About Luster

Driven by family, grounded in service

Orville Luster, father of Robert and grandfather of Emily, Sarah, and John, served as a U.S. Army first sergeant in WWII with the Red Ball Express, the largely African American convoy operation that kept Allied forces supplied across Europe. He settled in San Francisco, earned a degree from San Francisco State University on the G.I. Bill, and went on to lead the nonprofit Youth for Service, where, working alongside labor unions and public officials, he built workforce programs that moved young people out of gangs and into union jobs, college classrooms, or both.

Robert Luster followed his father into the military, earning a B.S. in General Engineering from West Point and serving 11 years as an Army infantry officer before completing his MBA. He returned to the Bay Area and, in 1990, co-founded Luster National with Orville. Over 33 years as President, Robert grew the firm on a relentless "can-do" attitude through three decades of expansion.

Today, it is the honor of the next generation, Emily, John, and Sarah, to carry forward the company their father and grandfather built.
