Ron Brown

About

Mr. Brown was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and raised in San Clemente, California. In his early years, Mr. Brown worked as a foreman, superintendent and project manager for his father, a commercial and residential general contractor. He graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree. Mr. Brown served a military career as a senior Army officer. His graduate studies included Chapman University in human resources management; the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College – Military Science, Leadership and Operational Art; the National War College in Washington, D.C. – National Security Course, and the U.S. Naval War College – Joint Military Operations with an additional emphasis in international security policy and national security strategy. As the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff for Joint Task Force Panama (E), he oversaw the U.S. Government’s nations’ assistance program for Panama, including the design and construction of schools, medical clinics and farm-to-market roads to help aid the remote villages throughout that country. Mr. Brown served as Deputy Director of Policy, Plans and Strategy for Central America, South America and the Caribbean (U.S. Southern Command), and Vice Director and Acting Director of Joint Interagency Task Force South (Drug War). He was also the Commander of U.S. Special Operations Forces (MOMEP) and senior U.S. military negotiator during the border war between Ecuador and Peru.

Following Mr. Brown’s retirement from military service, he accepted a position with The Austin Company, an integrated design-build firm, as Vice President for Government and Inter-agency Services and Director of Project Planning. He later accepted an offer to join Sundt Construction, Inc. as Vice President and Chief Strategic Officer. He was later promoted to Corporate Senior Vice President and assigned as National Profit Center Manager of Sundt’s Federal Division, responsible for managing the planning, design and construction of all federally-funded Sundt projects nationwide.

Mr. Brown’s current responsibilities as Luster Vice President, Major Capital Projects, include managing a portfolio of Luster Program, Project, and Quality management services for projects up to, and exceeding, $11B.

He has managed the planning, design and or construction on projects for each of the armed services as well as other Federal Agencies. His commercial experience includes a cross-section of clients including some of the nation’s largest Public Utilities, such as, the Salt River Project and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, as well as, Fortune 100 Companies.

Mr. Brown’s experience spans both traditional and alternative project delivery methods, including integrated project delivery, progressive design-build, construction manager at risk, CM/GC, cm-multi-prime, public-private-partnerships (P3), and design-bid-build. He has managed the design and construction of large and complex commercial buildings, including data centers, and other critical mission type facilities, as well as, large residential developments and industrial facilities. Mr. Brown has developed and managed the implementation of multi-billion-dollar mega-project quality management programs (ISO 9001:2015) for some of the nation’s largest corporate headquarters facilities and state department of transportation infrastructure programs.

Mr. Brown has been recognized with numerous national awards and is certified by the American Institute of Constructors (AIC) as a Certified Professional Constructor, (CPC). He received his designation as a “Design-Build Professional” from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). Mr. Brown is a National Fellow, the former National Vice President, and former member of the National Board of Direction and Executive Committee for the Society of American Military Engineers, (SAME). He was awarded the Society’s most prestigious General Walter O. Bachus Gold Medal in May 2010. He is the former National Chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee, and member of the Board of Directors for the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).   He was selected and appointed by the PBS Commissioner and Chief Architect of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) as a National Construction Peer. He has  been appointed by the U.S. Veterans Administration (VA) as a National Construction Peer to help resolve on-going construction management issues through construction delivery reviews for the VA’s larger hospital construction projects. Mr. Brown is a former national Vice Chair of the Project Delivery Committee for the Airport Consultants Council (ACC). He is recognized by both Government and the private sector as a subject matter expert and speaker in alternative project delivery methods. He has authored articles and has been published or recognized in articles of professional publications distributed by AGC, S.A.M.E., ACC, Engineering News Record (ENR), and the Professional Bulletin of Army Engineers.
